Espresso Maker November 16, 2008 I was Amazed by the speedy delivery from Amazon. i put it to work stright away and wow what a nice coffee
Perfect Coffees Every Time :D October 8, 2008 Mine's just arrived, replacing the generic 3-cup I've used off and on for years. Every time I go back to my moka pot from my expresso machine I remembered why I kept it, only catch was a 3-cup pot is not large enough to make a mug of coffee.
This size of moka is perfect for a large mug of strong expresso (well moka-expresso) coffee and I've just finished my first mug and boy was it good (I use Taylors Hot Lava Java coffee grinds). I first ran through just plain water to remove any machine oil, let it cool, then made the mug. The key thing to remember is not to fill the grinds funnel, it only needs to be about half filled, then tapped down.
Oh one thing to anyone who's bought one of these or is thinking about it. When you wash it, just rinse it out. In the same way you season a wok, you also season a moka pot ;)
Excellent Espresso Maker August 17, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
An excellent purchase and I would agree with all those who have already posted laudatory remarks.
Can I just add 4 observations
To those who want to know how many cups it provides - We get 295 ml of strong brown liquid from the 6 cup machine ( c. half a pint ).
It takes about 4-5 mins to make the coffee - from absolute start with cold water to drinking coffee. Just enough time to microwave and then foam up the milk using the bodum 1446 device.( we exclusively drink lattes )
Mild-to-firm tamping down is mandatory and crucial to taste - despite the instructions. We use the bottom of a glass tumbler
As regards using finely ground coffee - we don't have a grinder ; we buy Tescos Finest Columbian Supremo ground coffee and its fine.
Nice pot, but VERY small July 28, 2008 Good quality, but rather on the small side. Will just about make 2 small cups of your strong morning coffee... :-(
Coffee shop quality cappuccino in your own home! July 19, 2008 I bought my Bialetti Moka Express along with the bodum milk frother. I couldn't believe how good the espresso tasted, coming from such an inexpensive device. I've been used to a drip/filter machine with a milk frother but the 'cappuccinos' it makes don't even compare to those made with the Bialetti. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone- it takes 3/4 minutes and a small amount of skill to make the perfect espresso!
I use Lavazza coffee beans and grind them finely. When coffee starts to 'sputter', remove from heat source. Then heat your milk to nearly boiling and froth to double in size. Pour your desired amount of espresso into cup (I fill to 1/3 of a standard coffee cup) then spoon in your frothed milk and enjoy!!
