A book to get you out in the field July 16, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Now I am assuming that this book is the same as the one by the same authors, using the same image on the cover ... but titled "Rome's first frontier: the Flavian occupation of northern Scotland". OK. So - at first I liked it, despite what I saw as its somewhat `pop' aims, because it was fact rich, and was about my locale; the Inchtuthil legionary fort is only down the road from home. Then I started savouring their critique of other archeologists, and historians, and the way they worked and published. Well, usually didnt publish. And then I started to enjoy the authors illustrations of how some scholars do their thinking. And to be intrigued by novel views and conclusions. Great read, and it will get me out on the Gask ridge sometime soon! Thanks guys.
